Background:
H3R26 methylation has not been studied much. H3R26me2a is the newly found marker. H3R26 methylation is carried out by Protein Arginine methyltransferase 4 (PRMT4). Because H3R26 site is close to H3K27, which when methylated is a major repressive mark, the hypothesis is that H3R26me marker antagonizes the Polycomb repressive function by either preventing EZH2 methylation of H3K27, or blocking the docking of the Polycomb family of chromodomains and/or the EED WD40 domain to H3K27me3 (1, 2). Studies on H3R26 methylation have yet to be carried out, and remain as an attractive holy grail in the epigenetic field. To study H3R26 methylation, we now have H3R26me1 antibody and H3R26me2a antibody tools available.
