Background:
H3K9 Methylation is one of the gene-repressive modification markers. Particularly, H3K9me3 is highly correlated with constitutive heterochromatin. H3K9me3 is found in constitutively repressed genes (1). Closely-related H3K9 HMTases include GLP and G9a (2, 3, 4). H3K9 can also be modified by acetylation/deacetylation. H3K9ac is found in actively transcribed promoters (5, 6). To study H3K9 methylation status, check our K3K9 Methylation series.
